One of the most meaningful thing I could get to work on in 2024 is “Ageless Afternoons”! When Ms Amanda Soon approached me to work on “Crafting Futures, Trading Places” back before “Ageless Afternoons”, I did not know I would be able to pick up such a role and responsibility. However, she trust and openness in allowing me to explore and have fun through leading the project and ideating this music pillar of “Ageless Afternoons” had turned into one of my most meaningful experience.

“Crafting Futures, Trading Places” is a pilot project initiated by Fei Yue Community Services, supported by National Youth Council, in fostering intergenerational connection by bridging seniors and youth through artforms like Theatre, Fashion, and Music.
This pillar of “Crafting Future, Trading Places” focuses on Music. It aims to venture into the interests in music of youths and seniors into developing and creating performances. Collaborating with passionate individual youths, youths from Youth Harmony, and seniors from Ageless Bridge to shape timeless pieces through these generational genres and music.

Throughout the tight timeline of 1-2months working on “Ageless Afternoons”, I had a really supportive group of senior and youth performers, who gave so much effort and time into sharing and exploring both of their experiences with stories and music. Learning how to manage different stakeholders and communicating with diverse groups has become one of my largest learning points.
In this experience, I had also step up and ran technical rehearsals for the final performance, and it was also one of the largest challenge I faced when I was needed to host in Chinese! (It was my first time hosting as well!)

Lionel Fong’s commitment in overall project of Crafting Futures, Trading Places had truly been a great support and is definitely setting a high standard for intergenerational programs. His ability and enthusiasm in wanting to connect the past and the future through innovative method and creative expression definitely inspired future programming. I am deeply grateful that I had his dedication for this project and am reallty happy to have been a part to witness his work.
It was such a fun time working on “Ageless Afternoons”, and having such open mindedness to both generations. We managed to bring youth a time into the past with songs like Sway, and also seniors requesting songs like APT. Its really nice at the end where we concluded with a rave party, where oldies turned EDM, and where seniors took the lead on the dance floor.
